From Shepherd Boy to Good Shepherd || Let God
9:2 the the ratio we need in our lives according to Max Lucado. Nine times before David went into battle with Goliath did he mention God. Only twice did he mention Goliath. 9:2 is the ratio of God to giant.
———————————————
David beat Goliath. Now he’s in Saul’s house. Saul is jealous. Saul is mad. Saul wants revenge.
Saul’s rage is untamable. It’s not like the jerk on the highway riding your butt and shooting the finger kind of rage. Let’s try multiple assassination attempts!
But remember what happened in the battle with Goliath? David submits to God. David commits to the 9:2 ratio.
And David does it again here. You don’t see it as much in 1 Samuel, but you see it in David’ life elsewhere. Besides David and Goliath, growing up I knew David from another book - Psalms.
Look at the opening of Psalm 11:
In the Lord I take refuge.
And again in Psalm 59 (emphasis mine):
See how they lie in wait for me!
Fierce men conspire against me
for no offense or sin of mine, Lord.
I have done no wrong, yet they are ready to attack me.
Arise to help me; look on my plight!
You, Lord God Almighty,
you who are the God of Israel,
rouse yourself to punish all the nations;
show no mercy to wicked traitors.
But you laugh at them, Lord;
you scoff at all those nations.
You are my strength, I watch for you;
you, God, are my fortress,
my God on whom I can rely.
Again, the ratio is what matters...there is more emphasis on God than others. Look at the blue to green - David let God.
And this theme doesn’t stop there in the lineage. Yes, Jesus is God. But Jesus was also human. While Jesus was praying before He was to be crucified He said:
"Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done."
--Luke 22:42
Jesus asked to get out of dying. But Jesus said, “If that’s not what You want, God, then so be it.”
When we are examining what happened from the House of David to Son of God, we see that letting God be God made promises like Romans 8:28 and the “eventual” happen.
