From Shepherd Boy to Good Shepherd || From House of David to Son of God
And you thought Christmas was over….but you have until tomorrow (Epiphany).
———————————————
We started December 1st in Bethlehem and the birth of a king, King David, and here we are the day before the wise men arrived - and another king was just getting started. We started at the House of David and ended up with the Son of God - from shepherd boy to good shepherd.
As mentioned before, Jesus didn’t reign until He returned to earth and ascended into Heaven again.
Wait - I know I started the blog with claiming Christmas isn’t over and I’m getting into some Lenten reflections!
But look, if you leave Jesus in the manger you miss out on the real deal! You miss out on the monarchy that matters most. Look here:
But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law so that you could adopts us as his very own children.
--Galatians 4:4-5 [emphasis mine]
David was a great king - a king “after God’s own heart” - but as we know David was a sinner. He committed adultery, ruined relationships with his kids, and burned out at the end of his life. And I think that he was “after God’s own heart”...look back at the last 4 weeks - he was humble, he was patient, he fought for God, he surrendered. But at the end of the day, he was only human.
And sin is sin is sin is sin.
But from that sin, another more powerful King was born. He was born to save the world. That’s why He cannot stay in the manger. He wasn’t born to be born. He wasn’t born to grow old. He was born to save the world.
It’s time to take Him out of the manger. It’s time to get out of the House of David and enter into the House of God through the Son of God. It’s time to stop walking to Bethlehem with the shepherd and walk towards Heaven with the Good Shepherd.
