Table of Lent
We all sit at many tables in out lives.
I remember coming home after school and going to the dining room table to do my homework and practice my vocabulary words. My dad would then join me at the table for dinner.
I love sitting around my parent’s table Christmas morning with my aunt, uncle, and cousins laughing and eating.
We spend many holidays with 20 or so of us around a long array of tables.
After my Pappy’s death, we sat around my Grandma’s table and shared memories of him.
My old roommate and I would sit in our “designated” seats at the kitchen table and laugh at YouTube videos together.
My favorite time of year is sitting at a sandy table at the beach to play games and do puzzles.

Tables.
They are a place of productivity, communion, nourishment, fellowship…and so much more.
And now here we are - at the table of Lent. Lent is the time we set aside to remember Jesus’ time in the wilderness and preparation for his ministry. The table of Lent opens the door to study how Jesus spent His life and reflect on how we can move toward living that way.
Something that fascinates me about Jesus’ ministry is the way He, too, saw how many tables people sit at and how He uses that to capture their hearts.
And that’s what I want to do here. I want to sit at the table of Lent with you and talk about tables. I mean a lot of times tables lead to food - so maybe that will entice you to come and sit with us.
See you next week - at the Table of Forgiveness.
