Crumbs || Daily Bread

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.

Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

--Matthew 6:5-8

“This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’’

--Matthew 6:9-13 [emphasis mine]

When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He told them that God already knows what they need (v.8), but to ask Him for “daily bread” (v.11). Sound familiar?

Remember, when God made it rain bread - He told Moses that the Israelites were to gather only the amount of manna they needed for the day.

We live in a culture that created instant messaging, instant coffee,overnight shipping, and 30-minute guarantee delivery. And it’s easy to view God in a similar light. We want to know His plan now. We desire to have all the resources we need to get there up front.

However, Jesus repeats the actions of His Father to seek the Throne for our daily needs.

God desires for us to know Him. Knowing and learning about Him takes time. It takes daily devotion to seeking Him.

My relationship with Christ suffers, when I don’t spend time with Him daily. He’s Jehovah - relational. He wants to meet with me daily to grow in that relationship and to show me what I need to know about His plan for my life.

He wants us to come to Him daily to get what we need. Some days we need to come to Him hourly for strength for our faith to function. Some days our hour of devotions is enough to fuel our faith for the task ahead.

Creating a habit of approaching the Throne for our needs, helps us live a full, purpose-driven life.
